New Song – Lady Gaga “Monster” (Preview + DL)

Lady Gaga's sophmore effort "The Fame Monster" may not have charted as impressively as hoped in it's first week, but her competition was abundant so this wasn't surprising. After being told to re-release her album "The Fame" as it's success did not seem to match the success of it's singles, Lady Gaga was adamant that she wanted to make it worthwhile for her fans to buy, and decided to record 8 new songs.

She then came to a stage where she decided it would be released by itself as her sophmore album (The 8 new songs) and as a deluxe edition with "The Fame". I respect this, however she should've waited a little longer to write a few more songs, and make it a fully fledged effort. I feel this because mainly there has been no gap between The Fame's last single and The Fame Monsters release. Many people will not view this as her sophmore album, which is sad because it's a really solid collection of songs.

Anyway, whilst there are some amazing songs, and some that fall flat in an attempt to channel other artists style, I am going to focus on one of the many amazing songs on the album, "Monster". Monster is a great song, it has a very catchy beat, and a corny hook "He ate my heart", but funnily enough this hook just fits so well. For once Gaga's vocals work perfectly for the song, and she isn't wasting her time with vocal inflections, it just comes together so well and feels like a full song.

"Monster" is fantastic, catchy, and relateable, it has a very 80's ish sound to it, with the fading bridge and the beats that remind me of Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation (weirdly enough). I hope you enjoy the song, and whilst I cannot stand the cover art and the idea of releasing an album with only 8 songss, the album itself has some great songs, if you haven't heard this album yet, buy it on iTunes.

Whilst Gaga's outfits and look may really put you off of her, one thing remains, her music is really good (apart from the ballads) and her image shouldn't stop you from giving it a go! Leave a comment below, what do you think of releasing an album with only 8 songs? Would you prefer a re-release? Are you getting sick of Gaga or do you think her new album is refreshing?

New Single – La Roux “Quicksand” (Preview + DL)

La roux are an English electropop outfit. They are finding moderate success in Australia after having warm reception in the United Kingdom. Their sound is quirky, very distinct, and catchy. When you listen to their album all the way through, each song sounds somewhat similar, there is a distortion in the beats that you can hear throughout the music, this is both good and bad.

On the one hand it's good, because it's great to find an album that is a solid body of work that links in with itself, not just a collection of 12 tracks recorded serpately and at different times. Yet it can become a little repetitive, hopefully this doesn't become a big issue for them.

The song I will be featuring today is called "Quicksand", whilst it is no the current single (see "Bulletproof, which I will feature by next week) this song has a lot of emotion and a very authentic sound to it. It's definetly a great track, and it is the most distinct one in the entire album. This has a great hook in it, but is also a little bit different to the top 40 music we are seeing today. You may be able to distinguish the distortion they use on their beats from the song, it's really catchy, but when it is on every track of the album, it can get slightly boring.

La Roux have one gold album in the UK and two Gold singles in Australia so far and it looks like they might only just be getting started! Download the song if you want to hear more, and if you like it, please purchase the album in store, it is definetly a worthy album to buy, so many great tracks! New Single – Vanessa Amorosi “Hazardous” (Preview + DL)

After a breakthrough number one single in Australia ("This Is Who I Am") Vanessa Amorosi keeps getting stronger and stronger. From the self conscious girl with the outstanding voice who sang "Absolutely Everybody" on the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Vanessa has grown up into a mature and adventurous song writer. She's back for good she says, no more long gaps between albums.

The news of her new album being released so soon made me nervous, would it be rushed? Would it be too similar to the last album? Will the public like it? But after pre-ordering my copy (because I knew in my heart she would bring out a stellar album) I put the cd into my car, and I couldn't bring myself to even touch the skip button once. This album has it's highs and lows but they are all in the right place, and her sound is incredibly modern.

She almost reminds me of a modern day, drug free version of Chrissy Amplett (see Diviynls "I Touch Myself" 1991) her look is very similar, but her voice is about three times as strong (and Chrissy is an amazing vocalist). Vanessa has gone for an almost German techno sound for her album, but she has a bit of everything and she has made it not only soulful, but completely honest. The part I love the most, is that her songwriting is DEAD honest, she sings about extremely personal stuff, stuff most artists wouldn't even dream of releasing. This album is beautiful, artistic, and very, very fresh.

So, to the second single "Hazardous" which is a fan favourite from the album, it does not feature the more electronic elements of the album. But it is rather a harsher and rockier version of the first single. Hazardous is about how you can't draw yourself away from a bad influence even when you know you shouldn't. It is very catchy and has 'hit' written all over it.

This kind of consistency in singles will ensure her album gets the attention it deserves, and I see this album having longevity and extremely high long term sales. Please support Vanessa by purchasing her album, buying tickets to her live shows (which are great), and by telling your friends about it! New Single – Little Boots “New In Town” (Preview + DL)

Little Boots is definetly New In Town, and she's certainly not who you think she is. I had heard her music and thought she was going to be quite a dull and vain artist. How wrong I was. I ended up purchasing her album a month or two back, and was completely shocked to find a truly fantastic album, it was catchy, had it's own sound, but didn't sound repetitive ("Remedy" aside, which is the lead single).

One of the catchiest songs on the album is the single "New In Town" , what a catchy song! The hook goes "I'm gonna take you out tonight, I'm gonna make you feel allright, I don't have a lot of money but we'll be fine, no I don't have a penny but we'll have a good time". This song is full, rich, and infectious! I highly reccomend you to listen to the preview, it's very catchy, and if you would like to hear some other stuff from her, please purchase her album "Hands" in store, it is definetly worth the money, it's a great one!

Britney Spears “3″ (Amaya Alikstae Remix) (Preview + DL)

After a huge chart reign, in which she became the first artist to debut a single at the top position of the Billboard Hot 100 in the last three years, against all odds, Britney's "3" is still in the top ten and is only one spot away from dominating pop radio in the US (currently number 2 on mediabase, and increasing still) If Britney gains the top spot on mediabase with "3" she will become tied with Mariah Carey for the most number one's on pop radio this decade.

Britney is reaping the rewards of finally being embraced by American radio after being shunned during her hugely successful "Britney" era by Clear Channel radio, who refused to play her music despite public request because she did not nominate them as promoters for her Dream Within A Dream tour. This fate is one similar to the one Madonna recieved for her controvertial song "American Life" (How dare you criticise consumer culture, BAD Madonna!) ever since she has been completely shunned from American radio despite many of her songs being worldwide number one hits. The best part is though, that Madonna and Britney obviously do not need American radio to stay relavent around the world, their albums still sold very well during this time, Britney broke records with her "Britney Album" also.

Britney's single lately usually either chart extremely high and then fall quickly, or stay in the chart for ages but not peak at a high position. "3" along with "Womanizer" and "Circus" break this trend, by being a number 1 debut and also staying extremely high in the chart, and also beating out highly anticipated singles like "Russian Roulette" and "Bad Romance".

However, today I want to share with everyone a FANTASTIC remix of the song "3". Whilst you might find the song can grow old quickly if you over-play it, this remix breathes some life into the song, making it into a feel good song that is perfect for gym visits and idiotic car stereo violations. I hope you enjoy it, the best part is the chorus, even though in the normal song the chorus is actually the worst part of the song.
